How To Self-Care At Home.

Wanting to pamper yourself at home but not sure where to start. Here’s some go-to tips about how to treat yourself at home!

Set The Mood.

Throw on a comfy pair of pjs, dim the lights and light your favorite candle or diffuse a blend of essential oils to really make you feel zen. We love lemongrass essential oil.

Start With a Luxurious Facial Cleanse.

Get a fluffy facial brush and a bowl. Add a pump or 2 of your favorite gel or cream cleanser and a little bit of water. Give it a good whip like you’re mixing scrambled eggs and it will start to foam. Apply the brush starting at your forehead, cheeks, nose, chin and neck. Work this in for 60 seconds and remove with lukewarm water or a warm, damp towel.

Gentle Exfoliation.

This is going to prep the skin for the rest of the products you will apply. You will need your favorite exfoliant, a clean brush (or rinse off and pat dry the brush you used for your facial cleanse), and a small bowl. Mix your exfoliant with the brush in your bowl and apply all over. Leave on according to the brand's instructions (typically 10-15 min). Remove with a damp, warm towel.

Pro Tip # 1.

If you’re using products from the same brand, they may be able to be combined! We love to mix the hydrating enzyme mask and the brightening powder from Image skincare. This enzymatic exfoliation is enhanced with a protein peptide complex to help control active breakouts, redness prone and oily skin!

Pro tip # 2.

If you want to be super fancy, you can use a facial steamer to really soften the skin. Don't have a steamer? Hop in the shower and let the steam work its magic there!

Extractions.

We recommend leaving this to the professionals. Doing extractions at home can cause more harm than good.

Now, here’s where the fun starts: Face Masks.

There’s so many different masks you can use during this step. A hydrating mask, a sheet mask, a clay mask or even a combination! Depending on your skin concerns, there’s a mask for that!

Dealing With Clogged Pores?

Apply a clay or charcoal mask. Clay and charcoal help to absorb excess oil and impurities leaving the skin feeling soft, fresh and mattified. These masks should not be left on longer than 10 minutes. You would want to remove these right as they dry. Leaving clay or charcoal masks on for too long can disrupt the PH of your skin and dry it out.

Dealing With Dry or Dull Skin?

Apply a gel mask. These masks instantly soothe and refresh delicate and dry skin. Look for ingredients that include aloe Vera, hyaluronic acid, ceramides or glycerin. These masks can be left on anywhere from 10-20 minutes.

Sheet Masks, Under Eye And Lip Masks.

These masks help deliver instant hydration while cooling and soothing dry or dull skin. These masks can be left on from 10-20 minutes. Once they’re dry, it’s best to remove these and massage any leftover serum into the skin.

Pro Tip # 3

You can totally multi mask! Apply a clay mask in your t-zone if you’re concerned with clogged pores and a hydrating mask everywhere else! For under eye and lip care, these can definitely be added to the mix!

Elevate.

If you have any skincare tools, this would be the time to use them! Here are some of our favorite tools!

Your hands. One of the best skincare tools we have! Apply a small amount of facial oil and perform a facial massage. There's no rules about how to massage your own face, just make sure to move the skin in upwards motions to help lift the skin and facial muscles.

Gua Sha. Apply your favorite facial oil and get sculpting. Same with a facial massage, apply your tool in upwards motions.

Jade Roller or Cold Globes. the perfect way to calm and cool the skin even further. Pop these tools in the fridge for an added cooling effect. These can be applied over an oil or gel mask.

Microcurrent. At home devices like Nuface are great to give yourself an instant facelift. Microcurrent devices are best applied over a gel mask.

LED. These are a little more on the pricey side, but can be totally worth the investment if you’re looking to combat acne or signs of aging. We love this handheld device by LightStim for at-home use. LEDs are best applied on clean skin. Wait to use this tool after you're done masking for best results.

Finishing products:

Apply your favorite serum, eye cream and moisturizer! We always recommend a hydrating serum and moisturizer post treatment to calm and replenish moisture in the skin. Using active ingredients after a treatment (weather at home or a professional treatment) can dry out the skin or even cause flaking or irritation.

At home self care can definitely be done once a week in the midday/evening. That way you don’t have to apply makeup or sun protection after your treatment and can relax the night away!
